BPLS Agar for Selective Isolation of Salmonella (Merck Method)

BPLS Agar is a high-performance selective culture medium for the detection and isolation of Salmonella species in food safety laboratories, clinical microbiology labs, and environmental microbiology testing programs. Typical Salmonella strains do not ferment lactose or sucrose, so they utilize peptone metabolism and produce alkaline reactions that turn the medium red. Preparation Method

Dissolve 51.0 g of BPLS Agar powder in 1000 ml distilled water, heat until completely dissolved, sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes, and cool the medium to 45–50°C before pouring into sterile Petri dishes. The prepared plates are then ready for Salmonella isolation, microbiological analysis, and laboratory pathogen detection.
