Product Detail

Urea Broth: Essential for Enterobacteria Identification
BABIO offers Urea Broth, a specialized microbiological medium designed to aid in the identification of Enterobacteria, particularly for differentiating Proteus from Salmonella and Shigella in clinical samples. This essential tool helps laboratories achieve accurate and reliable results, enhancing their diagnostic capabilities.

The Urea Broth formulation includes pancreatic digest of casein, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, dextrose, sodium chloride, urea, and phenol red, which together create an optimal environment for bacterial growth. When bacteria metabolize urea, ammonia is produced, resulting in an alkaline pH and a visible color shift to red-pink, indicating urease production and facilitating identification.

With a final pH of 6.9±0.2 at 25°C, this medium is perfectly suited for isolating and identifying key Enterobacteria. It is widely used in clinical microbiology to differentiate Proteus species from other pathogens, such as Salmonella and Shigella.

Preparation Instructions:
Mix 29.01g of Urea Broth with 1L of distilled or deionized water, dissolve completely, and filter sterilize. Avoid autoclaving to maintain effectiveness. Store the prepared medium at 2-8°C, shielded from light, and ensure proper quality control by incubating at 36±1°C for 18-24 hours.

BABIO’s Urea Broth ensures consistent, reliable results for Enterobacteria differentiation, making it an indispensable tool in microbiological testing and clinical diagnostics.
