BABIO presents Urea Indole Broth, a highly specialized microbiological medium designed for the differentiation of enterobacteria based on urease and indole production. This essential medium is used in clinical and research laboratories to accurately classify various enteric bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli and Proteus species.

The Urea Indole Broth contains vital components like peptone, D(+) glucose, L-tryptophan, sodium chloride, and urea. These ingredients support bacterial growth and metabolic activity, with urea (20.0 g/L) stimulating urease activity and L-tryptophan (1.0 g/L) enabling indole production. Phenol red (0.012 g/L) acts as a pH indicator, providing clear visual cues for urease activity.

With an optimal pH of 6.8 ± 0.2, this broth fosters ideal conditions for the growth of urease and indole-producing enterobacteria. Preparation Instructions:
